Hospice Care Week 5 – 11 October

Hospice Care Week this year runs from 5 to 11 October. This year, the theme is Connecting Care, and hospices across the UK will be joining together to raise awareness of all the inspiring work that hospices do.

St Teresa’s Hospice will be taking part in Hospice Care Week to highlight the special role that we play in connecting individuals and families to the support and care offered by their local hospice.

One in three people will be touched by hospice care at some point in their lives – this means that every year more than 200 hospices across the UK support 360,000 patients and family members. All across South Durham and North Yorkshire, St Teresa’s Hospice cares for hundreds of patients every year, as well as supporting their loved ones. Our care is made possible by a diverse range of dedicated staff and volunteers who are all focused on supporting people with a life-limiting illness to live life as fully as possible.

We care - HCW over the years:

Supporting the choice to
be cared for at home.

Supporting staff to deliver
excellent patient care.

I am a volunteer - I always make sure
everyone has a full cup of tea!!
How can I
help you today?

Excellent end of life care has many parts – from medical treatment to personal well-being, to complementary therapies. Hospice Care Week provides a fantastic opportunity for all of us to celebrate the connections that make this possible.

During Hospice Care Week we’ll be talking about the work that St Teresa’s Hospice does in the community, sharing snapshots and details about the Hospice far and wide! Keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages for regular updates from us over the course of the week, and while you’re there, we’d love you to take part in the photo campaign, which will highlight all our amazing Hospice Care Connections!

We’ll also be screening a new documentary called Seven Songs for a Long Life, which follows the stories of patients, nurses and fundraisers at Strathcarron Hospice in Scotland. If you’re interested in watching this wonderful glimpse into the lives of some amazing people with us, please call on 01325 254321!

In the end, Hospice Care Week is a chance for everyone who is passionate about what we do to get involved, either by raising awareness, raising money or by giving up time to help us help people.
