Mowden Pre-School Goes Yellow for Hospice Care

Pupils at Mowden Pre-School in Darlington took the chance on Tuesday 27th June to join in with a special campaign raising funds and awareness for terminally ill people in Darlington.

The pre-school, which enrols children aged 3 and up, was turned yellow for the day as part of our Go Yellow for Hospice Care summer campaign. Pupils from the morning and afternoon classes helped decorate their classroom in shades of yellow, the official colour of the UK hospice movement, and raised money with a Yellow Cake bake sale.

Pre-school manager Claire Lamb said: “The children have had such fun baking and decorating yellow cakes for the Hospice. It’s great that this helps them to understand that there are people out there who aren’t so fortunate to be as well and healthy as them. I think nearly everyone knows someone who has needed St Teresa’s Hospice at one time or another, so I’m so happy we can help like this.

I’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all the children for their enthusiasm and compassion, to their parents for joining in the fun, and to my staff for making it such a lovely day. I’d also like to specially thank parent Caroline Brown for making and donating the star prize of our raffle: our giant yellow hospice cake! I hope together we raise vital funds for this great local charity.”

Volunteers for the Hospice also took to the streets of Darlington on Saturday 1st July as part of our annual Flag Day celebration. Volunteers collected donations in aid of the Hospice all day, and from noon Hospice founder Yvonne Rowe joined a team of volunteers for a bed push around the town centre to raise funds for patient care.
