Wonderful Ward Hosts!

Volunteers have played a vital part in all areas of hospice care from our very first beginnings, 30 years ago. We identified an additional special role, in preparation for the opening of our new, purpose built in patient unit in November 2016.

Ward Host Margaret lends a helping hand

Members of our new team of Volunteer Ward Hosts, such as Margaret Manual (pictured here), assist the nursing staff with duties such as making and answering phone calls, meeting, greeting and escorting visitors and doing other admin tasks as needed.

Lin Vaughan, IPU Sister said: “It’s wonderful to have this extra help, which enables the nursing staff to devote their time and energies to the patients’ needs. It is really lovely seeing how the ward hosts help to “join things up” putting people at ease as they go around the building”

The Volunteer Ward Host role is still evolving, as the staff adapt to new ways of working in the busy new in patient building, so we are looking for help all the time to meet additional demand.

Volunteers are particularly needed Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 4.00pm. For more information please contact Ros Kellock on 01325 254321.
