Volunteering

St Teresa's has a professional team of nursing and medical staff, but their job is only made possible with the support of an army of dedicated volunteers. We are always seeking new volunteers for all aspects of our work. If you think you would like to help us with patient care, fundraising or administration, the information below may help you to identify an area which may be of interest.

  • Day Care - general help in the hospice with any non-nursing duties for the guests to make their day as pleasant and comfortable as possible. The ability to talk easily and, more importantly, to listen is essential.
  • Inpatient Unit- Volunteers are needed each evening, and during lunchtimes at weekends, to help with the meal service for patients / to help with the patients and their relatives as required.
  • Hospice at Home - this is our sitting service, provided in the patient's own home. It is offered during the day or, to give carers a rest during the night. A medical background (e.g. nursing) is desirable but not essential.
  • The Family Support Service - The Family Support Team works as part of the multi-disciplinary team at St Teresa's Hospice, and in conjunction with other health and social care services, to provide support to individuals and families affected by life-limiting illness or bereavement. The Family Support Team consists of:
    • A Social Worker / Service Coordinator
    • Counsellors
    • Volunteer Support Workers
  • Driving - our driving service is offered to guests attending Day Care, to patients requiring transport to hospital appointments, to sitters visiting a patient at home and for the delivery of home loan equipment. It complements the other care services provided by the hospice. (expenses are paid based on actual mileage)
  • House-keeping - volunteers help by washing and ironing linen used at the hospice; also with general tidying up and with flower-arranging
  • Kitchen - general assistance with food and beverage preparation, also some cleaning duties
  • Gardening - occasional help is needed with weeding, planting and leaf clearance - it is not essential to make a regular commitment
  • Fundraising & Shops - click here to explore opportunities to help with fundraising or in our hospice charity shops

Induction - All volunteers helping in the hospice take part in an induction course (usually held on two separate Mondays)
