A sponsored dog walk held in aid of a local Hospice has now raised in excess of £11,000.
The third annual Bark in the Park in aid of St Teresa’s Hospice set tails wagging earlier this year, attracting dogs of all breeds and sizes from across the North East.
The charity stroll took place on Sunday 15th April and was sponsored by Jollyes Pet Superstore, North Road, Darlington. Store Manager Andy and Hospice Chief Executive Jane Bradshaw were presented with a cheque for £11, 554.95, to acknowledge the money raised to date from what has become a significant fundraiser for the Darlington based charity.
Andy, Store Manager at Jollyes Darlington, said: “We were pleased to be able to support Bark in the Park and it’s a brilliant result. The store team had a really good day helping to give out the Jollyes goody bags, and it was lovely meeting the hundreds of people and their pets.”
A grand total of 546 dogs took part in the one mile sponsored walk this year, beating both previous years’ figures right out of the park.
On the day there were various stalls providing entertainment and refreshments for the walkers, and also treats and activities for the hundreds of four-legged fundraisers.
Staff from Jollyes Pet Superstore handed out goody bags to every dog, full of toys and treats to reward them for all their hard work. The store team also played an important role in promoting the event.
St Teresa’s Hospice Community Fundraising Manager Scott Marshall said: “The number of dogs and their owners that took part exceeded all of our expectations. People travelled from all over the north east just to take part and the support has been amazing. This is our third year, and with the support of Jollyes we expect the event to get bigger and bigger.”
The event was such a hit that the team at Jollyes have already pledged their support. Andy said “We’re delighted to say we’ll be supporting St Teresa’s Hospice again next year and can’t wait until Bark in the Park 2019!”
