Light Up A Life

Every year we take part in the national Light up a Life appeal, offering you the opportunity to dedicate a light to someone special to you in return for a donation to
the Hospice.

Everyday the hospice puts its arms around families and looks after them in their hours of need. We want to share one example with you of how, through your generosity, we cared for one local family.

In 2021, Ian was given the diagnosis that palliative care was his only remaining option. COVID guidance on palliative care in a healthcare environment meant the number of family members allowed to visit were restricted. Ian and his wife Julie made the decision that they wanted Ian to stay at home, with his family and the support of St Teresa’s Community Team. Our Specialist Nurses and Health Care Assistants visited twice a day, caring for Ian and supporting Julie and their family.

“The team were lovely. They were lovely to him and to me too. They were experienced and knew exactly what to do and when to do it”.

Ian died at home in March 2021 surrounded by his family. After a number of counselling  sessions  Julie was invited to join our Bereavement Support Group. She found comfort in the shared experiences of others who understood the unique challenges of losing a loved one during the pandemic. “Other people don’t understand or know what it’s like. They try to sympathise, but they don’t really know.”.

Today, a donation will allow us to continue our work supporting those that need us the most, whether that’s in our Wellbeing Hub, in the hospice, or at home.

St Teresa’s is reliant on the generosity of our local community to allow us to continue to look after those that need our care, in the place that’s right for them, whether that’s at home or in the hospice.

Without the continued support of our community, St Teresa’s Hospice would not exist. Every gift  given helps us care for local people. Please, if you can, donate today so we can continue to support families like Julie and Ian’s.

When you donate, your dedicated name will be displayed on our virtual tree above. You can also download one of our cards to display.

Please complete and submit the form below to make a donation and dedication.

If you would like to remember more than one person, you are able to submit up to 4 names / lines of text at a time. If you wish to have more text than this, please return to this page after making payment and complete the form a second time.

Your dedication will be added to our virtual tree, and you can download your dedication card to write in here.

This year we will hold our Christmas Service on Sunday 17th December at the Woodlands Wellbeing Hub, at the hospice. This free event is open to everyone in our community whether you’ve experienced our care or not.

At this special time of year our minds and hearts turn to those who are no longer able to be with us. More than ever St Teresa’s Hospice is aware of our role in providing a safe place for our whole community to come together and celebrate those we hold in our hearts.
