We are giving people the chance to win a truckload of cash in time for Christmas thanks to the generosity of a North Yorkshire-based aggregates company.

Shire Aggregates has pledged its support to our first Christmas Cash Raffle, offering a top prize of £1,500 to one lucky winner.

Tickets for the prize draw will go on sale from 1st November and cost just £1 each, available from the Hospice and our 10 retail outlets. The draw will take place at 1pm on Christmas Eve at the Cornmill Centre, Darlington and there are 2nd and 3rd prizes of £750 and £250 respectively.

The raffle will generate much-needed funds for the Hospice, which must raise over £3 million each year to provide vital care and support services for the people of Darlington, South Durham and North Yorkshire.

Principal sponsor of the raffle, Shire Aggregates has its head office in Brompton on Swale, and since 1992 has been supplying aggregates to trade customers and the general public across the North of England. Shire Aggregates MD Jonathan Simpson visited St Teresa’s earlier this year with his wife, and fellow Director, Tina, and promised their continued support for the Hospice.

Jonathan said: “We visited the hospice in June and were amazed at the amount of services they offer to their patients and the quality of the care. We have supported the hospice behind the scenes attending events for many years but following our visit we took the decision to offer direct support where we can.

The Christmas raffle is a fantastic way of raising money for the hospice whilst giving people the chance to win some much-needed money at this time of year. As part of our initiative and as a thank you for their hard work this year we will be giving tickets to all our members of staff who will also have the opportunity to purchase further tickets.”

Chief Executive of St Teresa’s Hospice Jane Bradshaw said: “These are difficult times financially and we are incredibly grateful to Shire Aggregates for sponsoring this raffle, which will not only raise vital funds for St Teresa’s Hospice but will also give our lucky winners an early Christmas gift. We’ll be selling a limited number of tickets so players have a good chance of winning a prize.

“It now costs more than £3 million a year to run the services that have made a difference to so many people for more than 30 years. With falling levels of funding and rising costs we rely on our local community more than ever. Please have a go, and if you work for a local business please contact us for a pack to sell at work – good luck!”

Winners will be notified immediately after the draw and the results will be posted to the Hospice’s Facebook Page. For more information contact the Hospice on 01325 254321 or visit
