Superheroes and superheroines will soon take over South Park in Darlington to raise money to help local children who have lost someone they love.
The super-powered Superhero Toddle will be held in the park on Sunday 2nd September, starting at 11am, and is expected to attract more than 100 children in fancy dress, with their families, from all over Darlington and the surrounding area.
The sponsored walk will raise money in aid of the Family Support and Children’s Counselling services based at St Teresa’s Hospice, which help children of any age who have lost someone they love.
Children aged 0-11 years-old are welcome to sign-up and come down in their best superhero (or super villain!) costume and join in the short sponsored walk through the park, followed by a picnic.
A Best Costume Competition will be held, and the winners will receive family tickets to this year’s Darlington pantomime, donated by Darlington Hippodrome and Qdos Entertainment. Word from Gotham City is that the Riddler has also targeted South Park, and the Darlington superheroes will get the chance to solve his tricky Riddle Treasure Hunt. There will also be stalls and games to enjoy.
Hospice Fundraising Manager John Paul Stabler said: “Last year’s Toddle was wonderful, we were delighted to see so many young people turn out to show how much they and their families care about Hospice care in our area – it’s a very special thing that all the kids taking part will be raising money to help other children going through a very difficult time in their lives.
“We’d like to thank everyone who has already signed-up, and the local businesses who are supporting the event: 1st Stop Party Shop who have once again kindly offered to donate balloons and decorations, and Darlington Hippodrome and Qdos Entertainment for donating prizes for our costume competition.”
The walk costs £5 to register for children up to 11, which includes a picnic bag and a share of the Riddler’s loot! Parents and children aged over 11 are welcome to join in free of charge.
Pre-booking is essential to guarantee a picnic bag by visiting www.darlingtonhospice.org.uk. Families are welcome to bring their own picnics. For more information, contact St Teresa’s Hospice on 01325 254321.
