Teeing Off For Charity

Golfers are being urged to tee-off for charity to help fill a hole in a hospice’s coffers.

St Teresa’s Hospice is taking over organising an annual charity golf event staged by Heritage Healthcare and Landteam for the past 18 years raising an incredible £230,000.

The popular event will be staged on Friday, September 3, at Blackwell Grange Golf Club, Darlington.

COVID prevented the event taking place last year along with a host of other fundraisers leaving St Teresa’s Hospice struggling for funds while staff and volunteers continued their vital work.

St Teresa’s Hospice needs to raise £3m a year to provide free in-patient and community care for people living with life-limiting illnesses and their families in Darlington, South Durham and North Yorkshire.

Hospice Chief Executive Jane Bradshaw said: “Heritage Healthcare founders Sally and Glenn Pickersgill and Landteam’s Adrian Speir have been incredible supporters and have raised a phenomenal amount for us over the years.

“Even now, as they hand over the mantle after almost two decades, they are still helping us plan the next golf day to ensure it is a resounding success.”

Sally added: “The golf day has been a great event over the years and we have managed to raise thousands of pounds for St Teresa’s Hospice in Darlington. It means so very much to many people who have supported and played at the event. After the troubling times we have all been through recently, I hope that it will be a success this year with teams getting together with sponsors to make as much money as possible.”

This year’s event will see players challenge the 2019 winners for the Charity Golf Cup. An 18 hole Stableford tournament, it will also include prizes for nearest the pin and longest drive.

Entry costs of £220 for a team of four include a team photo, breakfast roll on arrival, followed by a one course meal after the game.

There will be further fundraising competitions on the course and in the evening a prize-giving and a raffle draw.

The cost to sponsor a tee is £150 for which each business will receive representation on the course and in the programme on the day.
